CUSTOM BOXES

The box is a highly customizable product, the shape of which can be custom designed and therefore take on specific characteristics. There are, however, models to refer to when designing. In some cases two elements are provided, as in the model with bottom and lid and in the matchstick version, made up of a removable tray inserted in a band. Otherwise, the lid can be attached to the base, allowing closure via interlocking flaps.

The box can be completely self-assembling, or have glue points. In the first case the cardboard is die-cut and creased to allow folding and interlocking using tabs. The linear version, however, requires gluing along one side and closes via interlocking flaps both in the upper and supporting parts. Furthermore, for even simpler assembly and greater resistance, a snap-on bottom can be created by applying a dot of glue to the bottom as well. Finally, the foldable version allows you to assemble with a quick gesture a very resistant box, made of coated rigid cardboard, whose closure is ensured by magnets inserted underneath the paper.

When choosing the paper, the visual impact you want to achieve is taken into account, as well as, obviously, the characteristics of the product for which the box is intended and any specific needs. Starting from these assessments and necessary technical considerations, it is possible to establish the ideal type and weight of paper for your project. Generally, we choose between recycled paper, excellent for a natural and ecological result, taut cardboard and pure cellulose, printable on the coated side or on the rougher side. For greater strength, the paper can be laminated to a microwave cardboard. Alternatively, you can print directly on pure 1 mm cellulose which in itself guarantees a certain rigidity. Finally, the desired visual and tactile effect can be obtained by laminating the box with a glossy, matt or soft touch film.

Printing can be achieved through various techniques, used individually or in combination with each other. Digital and offset printing allow you to create solid backgrounds and colored graphics, with four-color or pantone printing. The first technique occurs with a direct transfer of the inks onto the paper, without the need for plates. The second, however, is carried out through an indirect process and allows a very high definition to be achieved. The box can then be embellished with a hot, embossed or UV finish, created on the logo or other graphic details. Hot stamping consists of the impression of a foil, with a pastel or metallic effect, through a cliché. The relief does not add color to the box, but gives an effect that is recognizable to the eye and touch. Finally, UV screen printing gives depth to the detail and its rendering can be opaque or glossy or even enriched by lamination.

The box can be enriched with various elements, based on practical needs or style preferences. A solution that usually responds to the need to protect the product for which the box is designed, for example, is to create custom-shaped internal housing. To make the contents visible, a window of various sizes and shapes can be provided which can be left open or covered with a transparent PET protective film. Finally, a distinctive and useful touch can be added by a handle attached to the box, often present in cake holders, or by the application of ribbons that act as handles or closure of the box.
